Patternmaker III
DIVISION: Corporate and Design

LOCATION: Irvine, CA
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Minimum 15+ years

POSITION SUMMARY STATEMENT

The Patternmaker III will be responsible to create high quality patterns with in company set levels of productivity, applying St. John guidelines. Responsible for proper fit of garment through balance of pattern, pattern card, and construction sewing details and cutting information. Functions will include but not be limited to the development of Block Library patterns and pattern related guidelines and standards.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Interpret information specified through design sketch, design specification sheet or dup fitting notes to produce corresponding pattern.
  • Interpret design sketch utilizing draping skills.
  • Use Production Fit note set up, to create production pattern.
  • Utilize St. John Block Library and How to Measure Manual, as foundation for pattern set up, and guidelines.
  • Give direction through proper paperwork to the plotter room to ensure plot request are submitted and processed with correct follow-up.
  • Taking ownership of assigned styles through resolving all issues from development stage through final production stage.
  • Manage workload based on department demands without daily supervision.
  • Take on styles with complicated pattern requirements.
  • Meet or exceed deadlines with a high level of Productivity.
  • Take initiative by undertaking styles with aggressive due dates to help the department meet deadlines requirements.
  • Participate in pattern check fittings of own garments, providing feedback relating to pattern work, construction, and fit of the garments, and function as a back up for other patternmakers.
  • Act as a back up when required by taking over other patternmaker’s styles.
  • Offer suggestions to improve department efficiency and quality of garment developed.
  • Interpret “problem styles” and find solutions.
  • Develop area of specialty based on departmental needs and personal strength and interest.
  • Function as the, “go to person” for Patternmakers technical advice based on St. John guidelines and standards.
  • Utilize technical expertise on Pattern making system software to offer input on debugging on software issues.
  • Assign or re-assign pattern work as backup to Design Leader or Department Manager.
  • Function as technical support for entry-level pattern maker when needed.
  • Function as quality control for the department by participating in final change checkpoint review.
  • Assist in training new of patternmakers as needed.
  • Follow-up on all request from Design, Production, and Product Development on styles produced utilizing company tools, i.e. email and other forms of communication. 

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

  • Interacts directly with Designers to interpret Design Sketch into effective first pattern.
  • Interacts with Production Technical Team on Production set ups where creating Production Patterns.
  • Interacts with production managers on pattern related issues.

Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree, collage or fashion school degree in primo area preferred.
  • 15 + Years Pattern making Experience Required.
  • Computer literate Cad system certified preferred.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English.
